A new approach

I spend a lot of time looking at photos of plants in their natural habitats.  There is so much to learn; soil composition, landscape, position, plants with similar cultural requirements, responses to seasonal changes, etc..  Although I admire the presentation of a specimen in an artistic pot or pulled up to reveal more of it's caudex, etc., I have grown to appreciate plants presented in a situation that mimics nature.  I have lots to learn, but this is my first attempt.

Here's an older presentation.

I tried to mimic plants growing in rock crevices.  These quartz stones work out pretty well.  Only time will tell if these lithops survive!

  1. Love the first pic. I also like the look of a natural landscape/setting. But I also like mixes of cool pots. I still haven't decided what "my thing" will be. I actually saw the idea of making pots out of concrete today, so who knows where I will end up. Maybe I'll buy my first lithops too :)

    1. Thanks Steve! I'm going to try conophytums next. I love how they grow in cracks between rocks. Still thinking how I'm going to accomplish that. Hope you add a lithops to your collection. They are so fascinating!

  2. Beautifully done, the best of both worlds, people can see them in CA, but in a way that looks a lot like their native environment.
